The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place is a stimulating and loving environment where a congregation’s volunteers form a Care Team® to offer safe and interactive activities for members of the congregation and community who suffer memory loss or cognitive impairment. A care partner’s diagnosis may be Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, multi infarct dementia or confusion and disorientation attributed to older age. Their needs may be for affirmation and socialization and for activities to call “their own”. A caregiver’s needs may be for just a little bit of time away from their daily responsibilities, time to shop, nap, attend a Bible study or a support group or have lunch with friends.

Volunteers

Care Team® volunteers are trained and supported by staff at Interfaith CarePartners® with no fee involved. Interfaith CarePartners® conducts orientations and workshops, offers continuing education and conferences, makes available resources such as games and other activities and assigns a staff member to partner with a congregation on a permanent basis.

The Vision

The Gathering Place vision for stimulating activities for those with memory loss and respite for a primary caregiver is now a “success story” in over 50 congregations with more in the planning stages. From 10am until 1:30pm once a month care partners enjoy crafts, singing, special entertainment, chair exercise and a nourishing lunch. During those three and one half hours it is hoped that the caregiver will be free from worry, knowing that their loved one is cared for by this special group of volunteers.

Through an Alzheimer’s Care Team Gathering Place ministry everyone is blessed by the very act of sharing God’s love and living His Word.

“Even these may forget. Yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have graven you in the palms of My hands”. Isaiah 49:15-16
